History
Of the Greater Los Angeles PHC Contractor's Association

In 1893, when the City of Los Angeles boasted a population of 66,019, a local plumbing group established 'The Merchant Plumbers of Los Angeles."

On January 22, 1906, articles of incorporation as 'The Associated Plumbing Contractors of Los Angeles were issued by the State of California.

Over the years, as the City of Los Angeles and its environs grew, outlying areas felt a need for their own 'local" association, and additional PHCC groups were formed throughout Los Angeles County: Long Beach, Rio Hondo, San Gabriel, Santa Monica Say. and San Fernando Valley.

With the passage of time, and the gradual divergence of plumbing contractors into two specialized fields -- new construction, and service and repair --the larger construction plumbing companies formed PHCC of Southern California, now the Plumbing & Piping Industry Council. Service and Repair contractors formed several PHCC groups, later amalgamating into the current PHCC-GLAA.

In 1988 six Los Angeles County area PHCC associations, in conjunction with the Associated Plumbing contractors of Orange County, formed the Southern California Training Program, Inc. This entity was devoted to providing low cost apprenticeship training for members' employees. In 1992 SCTP ceased to exist and PHCC-GLAA now operates the four-year training program through a Training Committee and Training Coordinator.
